Through the Salar Project, the author aims to connect the viewer’s eyes with a mysterious beauty, unknown to most: the life cycle of the Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar). In particular, the biological cycle of the salmon in the rivers of the Cantabrian Mountains, considered the southernmost population of this species worldwide.

A magical, mystical, and dreamlike fish. A being full of life, of instinct. Pure essence distilled drop by drop from the waters of our Cantabrian mountains that saw them born, which they carry so deeply within, that they are at once the origin and destiny of their existence.

The King of the River, always surrounded by mysteries and unanswered questions that get lost in the depths of the river and grant it a halo of mysticism that turns into an obsession for many.

Not in vain, in the midst of a society that often makes us feel disoriented and lost, possibly its tenacity, persistence, its struggle, and its capacity for suffering and perseverance in the face of all the obstacles it must overcome, make it a fish desired and admired in equal parts.

Harassed by endless risks, dangers, and threats, and enveloped in a continuous and persistent pursuit, the hope for the protagonist of this project is none other than the dissemination of its story, its life, and the incredible feats it performs throughout it, simply to perpetuate its species.

May this series of 17 large-format photographs and a documentary trailer serve so that the overwhelming aesthetics of its biological cycle and the knowledge of its character, its strength, and resilience help it continue to perpetuate its reason for being, its return to origins.
